Built in 1930 during the  Great Depression, the schoolhouse was well built but with  no architectural frills.  For example, rather than constructing a  traditional bell tower, the school simply utilized an electric bell.  The school  outgrew its use for learning in 1964.  In 1974 Dan's Mother, Jo Ann, bought the  structure and  its surrounding acres.

Perched on a hill on the ancient shoreline of Lake Michigan, the school became  both home and art studio for the Meunier family.  The 12 foot ceilings and hardwood floors provide excellent acoustics which prompted Dan to record his albums and give piano  concerts in that space.   Dan calls the schoolhouse the Carnegie Hall of Jacksonport!

"When he strolls the quiet woods behind his schoolhouse, Dan hears music...the woods' songs become compositions eagerly awaited by a dedicated group of fans."  ~Midwest Living Magazine

Concerts From A Schoolhouse
Dan Meunier Music

The  public is invited to  drop by, pet Kitty Boy the cat, and purchase Dan's recordings.  A retrospective  exhibit of the late Jo Ann and Jenny Jo Meunier's paintings  is displayed.

Enjoy a special concert of old-time music, comedy and hymns that is sure to please!  Dan performs from a grand piano, an upright piano, and from an antique parlor organ.  We close with a group sing-along.

With a grandmother who played pump organ for silent films and a mother who took opera lessons and filled the house with song, Dan Meunier followed his inspirational musical upbringing.  A self-taught pianist at age 14, Dan used the piano like it were a vocal choir.  "I always thought of the piano as one big, happy choir," Dan said.

Later graduating from St. Olaf College  with an added emphasis on art history, Dan now holds concerts in his historic schoolhouse which doubles as a museum.  The schoolhouse, filled with works of art and eclectic antiquities, has become a place for  Dan to share his love of the creative spirit.  A composer, singer and storyteller, Dan is a Wisconsin gem and a favorite stop for the Door County bus tours.  Stop by for a visit and a song!
